Doug Greenberg, president of Portland, Oregon-based Pacific Northwest Advisory (PNWA), founded his firm after nearly three decades as a top financial advisor. Greenberg and PNWA provide highly personalized financial advisory services to business owners, executives, and individual investors to help clients protect their personal and business investments with coordinated financial investment plans aligned with comprehensive growth strategies.

Mr. Greenberg collaborates with a full range of professionals such as tax attorneys, CPAs (tax preparation, M&A, and business valuation), estate planning attorneys, and investment bankers to plan for and secure each client’s financial future.

His services include business transition planning, investment management, wealth management, and retirement planning. Greenberg’s more than 29 years of experience as a top financial advisor and his recognition by numerous leading financial publications distinguish him in the industry as a professional with proven success in helping business owners ready their businesses for sale, as well as assisting individuals build and manage their assets.

Greenberg’s Approach

Doug's experience growing up and working in a large, family-owned business, combined with his track record in guiding owners of mid-tier companies ($10 million to $150 million) through the sale or transition of their business, has enabled him to develop a process that allows a business owner to fully understand the impact of a business sale prior to building a team. Douglas Greenberg manages the essential component of "filling in the gaps" to create the focused and dedicated team necessary to sell or perpetuate a business.

Managing the transition all the way through to completion allows for consistency and familiarity aligned with each business owner’s goals. Greenberg’s implementation plan enables a business owner to move forward, knowing their replacement income is sound and growing. With each client, Greenberg creates a customized solution based on an objective view of the business owner's needs and goals.

Greenberg’s expertise as a seasoned financial advisor also includes everything from managing retirement plans and hedge fund portfolios to selecting investment managers. Greenberg has managed and performed due diligence on 401(k) plans, large corporate cash management accounts, selection of investment advisors, hedge fund portfolios, private equity investments, and corporate bond and municipal bond fixed income portfolios.

A Career As A Top Producer 

Prior to founding PNWA, Greenberg compiled an enviable track record working at the multinational investment bank and financial services company, Morgan Stanley, as an Executive Director. He served at Morgan Stanley for 24 years and was regarded as one of the firm’s top financial advisors. Greenberg was a member of the firm’s elite "Chairman’s Club," which honors brokers who are top producers. He was also ranked among the top two percent of Morgan Stanley’s brokers in terms of revenue generated.

Greenberg began his career in investment management at Merrill Lynch in 1992, where he worked as a financial consultant for nearly 18 months.

Industry Recognition and Accomplishments

He was named as one of Oregon's top wealth managers by Forbes in 2018. He was also recognized by Barron’s annual "Top Advisor Rankings" for four consecutive years, ranking him second among all financial advisors in 2012. The Financial Times' "FT 400 Top Financial Advisers" recognized Greenberg as one of only two top advisors in Oregon in 2013.

Douglas has participated in a number of professional events, including a roundtable of experts offering advice on selling your business and M&As. He writes on various topics, from wealth management to effective retirement planning, building your portfolio with alternative investments, and others.

Academic History, Certifications, and Licenses

Doug holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Texas, Dallas. He has also studied at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. 

Greenberg earned a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation from The Wharton School. He also holds several other licenses and certifications, including FINRA Series 63, the Oregon Life Insurance State License, and the Oregon Variable Annuity Insurance State License. 

Greenberg gives back to the community with his volunteer work and philanthropic endeavors, including as a former member of the advisory board with the ALS Association, Oregon and SW Washington Chapter, and as a mentor for St. Mary’s Home for Boys, which provides residential treatment and services to at-risk boys between the ages of 10 and 17. 

Personal Interests or Hobbies

Greenberg lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon, which is 10 miles from Portland. When he is not working, he spends time with his two grown-up sons, with whom he regularly attends live sporting events. He is also involved in a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, sailing, skiing, and scuba diving. He and his sons enjoy traveling the world together and have had the luxury of partaking in some amazing experiences, including climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in 2019. The Greenberg men are fans of the major league soccer team Portland Timbers and professional basketball.

Greenberg is also an avid skier in the Cascade Mountains and a boater on the Pacific Northwest’s many lakes and rivers.
